They alter the route occasionally. I never did this version, but you can probably look at past years' ones.
Yeah, that wasn't even the intended route but they altered it due to flooding on some of the (more enjoyable) roads. I drove some of the bypassed roads the day before and the day after the event, and there was indeed a good amount of water in some places.
