I would buy new wheels for the 1500. That is a decent bike (good frame, good components.) I will definitely agree with you that wheels are crap. I've ridden my 06 (got it in late 07) 1500 3k miles and the back wheel is about to detonate on me. Keep the bike, buy some bomb proof wheels (hint: Mavic Open Pros with Ultegra hubs) and ride the crap out of it.
