So I got the freewheel off of a hub im using planning on using the spacers/cogs for a manual change double speed bike, but I a having trouble getting the cogs apart. If they aren't coming apart easily does this mean its a cassette? I always thought freewheels just sort of fell apart when taken off the hub
Generally 2 chain whips are necessary to remove freewheel cogs. put one chainwhip on the third or fourth cog to hold it steady. Put the other chainwhip on the smallest cog and try to spin the cog counterclockwise. It generally takes a good amount of torque to get the cog loose. Once you get the first cog or two to spin off the rest are splined and just slide off.
