I think your perception of how the Varia assists a rider in being safer on the road is somewhat off.
I'm going to assume you don't use one. If you feel it's just something to 'bully' you out of the way of an approaching vehicle, then I must assume you also don't use a mirror, look over your shoulder, or even listen for vehicles. Instead, you just ride along and hope not to be hit from behind by some inattentive, impaired, or "I just don't like bicycles on MY roads" type driver. Good luck.
