Very few shoes have the 4 hole insert.
Maybe it’s stronger. Maybe it’s insurance against stripping.
Maybe it’s got a greater area spread over the shoe, allowing a thinner/weaker sole.
I don’t actually know either, since I only use 2 at a time.
