Positron400 FWIW the whole brake track thing started because the hard anodized darker rims becoming ever more popular in the late ‘80s didn’t break quite as well as their silver counterparts until the anodizing wore off. The uneven wear of the anodizing was very unpopular and eventually the manufacturers started the machining to resolve these issues. There was no real reason, other than aesthetics, to machine the silver ones.
