And to answer my own question (and chip away at the 10 posts goal to put up photos), it looks like this 0500 bike is actually a 1990 instead of a 2000. This would explain the fewer gears, lack of QR hubs, lack of quick release on seat posts, but arguably stronger frame. Thanks for all the help so far!
