Actually, the archetypal Dutch bikes started out as Raleighs build under licence, so you're more right than you think you are
Your best bet is to shoot for a Raleigh DL-1, or else, if you like the style but in a newer version, buy a VanMoof. They opened a NY store/US distribution system a while ago.
