The Garmin simply takes more unnecessary effort for a lot of common functions. It absolutely requires more cognitive load to interact with, which is a big deal when not just pulled over but actually riding.

Again, it's not as difficult as you make it out to be. One reason for Garmin not to keep changing the UI is that it's fairly standard (and has been for a while).
