I have a favorite 25 mile route I ride near Sacramento that is my “flying” ride. Nearly complete flat roads in excellent condition that allow me to just tuck down and move. I’m approaching 61 soon so I suppose the concept of speed is relative but I’m in good shape and holding 20mph on this ride (or a bit more) is within my capability.
So I’m flying along on my Colnago C40 feeling like a superhero when I hear a bike bell behind me and I’m thinking “did someone put a bell on their car?” 😃
Then about 8 “kids” pass me at a speed that stunned me, I looked like I was going backwards 🤣🤣 assuming I was doing between 20-22, they had to have been doing at least 28 if not more and they went off into the distance never letting up.
It was both depressing and impressive 🤣🤣
If they were riding in a pace line then they have a big aerodynamic advantage. Think of yourself as a lone breakaway rider getting sucked up by the peloton.
