If it's a regroup situation, I have a good idea of my 1min, 3min and 5min power, so those will be the loose upper bounds, depending upon the duration of the hill, if I'm solo or if I'm with people that may want to suffer along. If it's a longer hill (most in my area aren't) or if the pace is more relaxed and/or we want to stay together, I'll sit anywhere between 80 and 100% of FTP, depending upon the disposition and/or capacity of the others.
Depends on the hill and length of ride. 1 minute or less on the climb it’s balls to the wall if it’s a short ride or at FTP if it’s longer. 20 minute climbs I try to stay at 90%FTP. Anything longer than that and it’s like 70-80% of it.
