I got to enjoy a couple of 17°-ish mornings, (and colder than that in Ely, NV) with the Jetta but still didn't want to heat my ass. I just set the HVAC to 70 or so and put vents on feet and hands after scraping the windshield, then feet only after my hands thaw out, and defrost only when needed.
I did try the ass heater on a 25 degree morning to see what it was like but it just had my balls sweating by the time the rest of the cabin warmed up
