Eventually it will happen. I built a sub 35 pound 2000 GT Zaskar with lots of light parts that I already had (carbon Ritchey fork, titanium seatpost, DT 240 wheels etc) and a 10 pound BBS02, 3.5 pound Luna 52V - 6 ah battery. Will be sub 30 when a lighter DIY mid-drive is available.
Battery weight is the issue here. And i see companies have vision of making range longer rather than making bikes lighter. So even battery technology progress for certain time we won't see such major weight drops
