bargo68, if you don't have goatheads or lots of glass on your roads, try running without the flawaways. I use tires with no puncture protection, and I do just fine. You'll like the ride quality.
I wish! About 4/5 miles of my commute is through an industrial neighborhood with 5 train track crossings, sometimes heavy detritus (even in the middle of the lane) and I commute home after dark. This for me is a compromise between a super supple ride and Schwalbe Marathons or Gatorskins, both of which I tried on my commuter with less than happy results.
Just took a couple mile spin on the Somas with the liners and I think it's gonna be good!
