The kcal is always less than the kJ, usually between 60% and 70% of kJ - it varies. Might be based on HR as it's a lower percentage when I do short intervals.
I recall reading that Wahoo head units will estimate kCal based on HR even when you have a power meter (perhaps that was fixed in a firmware update). I don't think I'd heard that about Garmins but who knows?
