Sometimes they are labeled "randonneur", Smoother ride, absorbs the road shocks more, and relatively speedy, if you equip it with modern box section rims and modern, light, higher pressure tires. If it does not already have them, install a rear rack and fenders. A front bar bag is also a useful accessory on a commuter.
