It seems like you ran into a chainline issue (road double [43.5mm] vs MTB triple [47.5mm]). Basically, your 50t is roughly where your middle ring is now.

These modern road cranksets from Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo are not meant to run shims on the BB, there is no chainline adjustment. GXP especially uses a stepped down spindle which requires a specific distance for preload; unless the shell is way out of spec, BB shims are not used on road cranks.

It looks like a Shimano Hollowtech II 50/34 fits.
