If I had ever finished a marathon back in my running days which I didn't, I would have valued the medal. But would not have worn it in public at the race or after.
Saw a 20-something runner show up at a 10K race with the track medals he won in high school.
Personally, I wouldn't want a finisher's medal. I'd happily wear a finisher's t-shirt, but a medal would go to waste.
