A rotor below the minimum thickness after the first set of pads is what I'm talking about. The first time I saw that on a VW I was stunned. Many years ago, of course.

I'm pretty certain I have never replaced a rotor on any car I've had but I think I did replace a drum once on an old truck. Sold my S-10 with near 300k and original rotors and drums. Current beater has 200K and has had front pads once, no rotors or rear pads yet. It helps that I drive like a scared old lady.
