My first compact (50x36) was in 2014 and I thought it was great. So great, I put a compact Campy 50x36 on my Gianni Motta. Then last year, I buy a Colnago with a 52x36 and now it's my favorite. I'll bet that I'd like a 53x39, also.
The Canyon's got a 52/36 with a 11-34 cassette, so the range in either chainring is so broad I am often surprised to find myself running out of big gears on a descent, or small gears on a climb, and I look down and I'm in the wrong chainring.
