I'm just arguing your absurd assertion that making an exception to a principle renders it nonexistent. From the Cambridge English Dictionary: "if you agree with or believe something in principle, you agree with the idea in general, although you might not agree with all the details or support it in every situation." You're welcome to hold your absolutist view, but don't expect others to subscribe to it.
