I think that's an improvement. I really think there might be improvments for "sprint" shoes if the shoe laces/straps mounted at the carbon base of the shoe and wrapped over to at attached to the carbon base on the other side of the shoe.
This design is similar, but for a different reason. It seems that the rationale is to be more aero by hiding the buckle.
