When I inspect my cleats for wear, I focus on the thickness at both the front and back of the part of cleat that engages. It usually wears evenly, but sometimes the front gets too thin, sometimes the rear. I typically replace when it’s down to about 2mm thick as that’s when I think it risks breaking.

Me too. I was referring to the little protrusion that pushes the latch back when you twist your foot. It's only happened to me a couple times.
