Yeah, that's what I did when I re-cabled the Domane, should be similarly easy with the R3; it's a pretty short, direct run to the bottom of the BB - just pop out the cable routing insert. The second run for the RD was a little more tricky to fish if you started at the BB, but easy if you start from the RD, so take that approach if you lose your lead for any reason.
Thanks. Just looked this up and sliding housing liner over the entire length of the old cable looks like the easiest option.
