Not really, in fact, first time I've heard of these was a few years ago when
plug streets made their appearance in the Ghent-Wevelgem Classic. A respectful nod to WWI victims on the one hand and an opportunistic one to the popularity of
strade bianche on the other. In this part of the country, at least in my experience, when you go off-road you're most likely to end up in mud up to your knees. By the way,
plug street is an English corruption of Ploegsteert, a small village on the Belgian linguistic frontier, sadly also final resting place of the golden boy of Belgian cycling from a few decades back.
