Yeah, I somewhat agree it's a bad idea. I normally prefer the patina (with a clear coat), unless you can achieve a really great match AND apply it so it doesn't look stupid. Also, nail polish is often lacquer, which can be really difficult to apply without looking gloppy. But I believe Revlon does make an enamel nail polish.

The last time I used nail polish on a bike was a clear color to strengthen embroidery thread used to finish bar tape. That got too complicated (and basically stupid), so I just went back to the simple black tape Fizik bundles with their bar tape.
