I recall reading the Register every day during RAGBRAI and checking Karras's and Kaul's columns. John would report on the various sights and people encountered along the route, and Donald would complain about the route and how hard it was (tongue in cheek, and humorously). I had no idea that he was riding a Masi, though! That was quite an exotic bike for that day and for Iowa.

1973 was just the second year for the ride... that must have been an interesting experience!
