Nothing like 42 mm tires to handle any paved road and just about any maintained county dirt road.

One of my Gitanes came with the derailleur hanger drilled out to accept a cheap, bolt-on Shimano RD. I had to kludge a sleeve to bring the hole back to spec so I could hang a proper Simplex RD. People do all kinds of stupid things - hoping nobody did something equally stupid to the one you’re interested in!
