anybody use both winter cycling boots and winter shoe covers together?

I want to keep my feet warm down into the 20's and my Fizik Arctica boots are not sufficient. Tomorrow I plan to take a 30 mile ride in the cold and will put my old Giordana Windstopper shoe covers over top of my Fizik Arcticas to try it out. I found out that neoprene socks just make my feet colder so I am just using thick wool socks and trying to not tighten the internal continuous lace down too tight so as to try to maintain some type of airspace inside of the boot.

So anyway, has anyone doubled up both winter boots and windblocking shoe covers together? Thanks for any help.
