When I was googling around to find a good how-to guide, this thread on weight weenies gave what seemed to me to be pretty good instructions, the OP claimed to have worked as a team mechanic and liked KMC chains, one of the benefits being you don't have to strip the manufacturing lubricant before waxing.

The chains came out of the hot pot well, if they came out gummed up I could have stripped them then and started again. KMC also recommends not stripping their chains completely from their maintenance page, for fear of cracking the outer plates and probably also to preserve the grease inside the rollers.
