You actually build up to it, so it is not as noticeable. Eventually I start to wear multiple layers, switch from sunglasses to ski goggles, and from cycling gloves to large mittens. If you suddenly drop into a climate that is 5 degrees (F), you would have a hard time. But if you had been riding in 10 degree weather the week before that, it doesn't seem much different.
It's spring now, and one of my least favorite seasons. It snows, partially melts, then freezes. That makes for a mess and a slippery or bumpy commute. I also hate riding through puddles that are 3"+ deep. No matter how good my fenders are, I still end up getting wet. So all things considered, the month of March is the worst.
