Saw that a few weeks ago. Made me wonder if I saw one a few years ago while camping in NJ. I was reading by my campfire at night when a rather large, winged bug came crashing down into the sand. Scared the hell out of me. I stomped it. It definitely had an orange head. Never saw anything like it before.
Years ago I was in Northern California and a bald-face hornet flew up the back of my shorts and stung me on the ass. It was by far the most painful insect bite I ever had. My friend told me they were considered the most painful bite in North America. I wouldn't dispute that. It hurt so bad it was ridiculous.
