I'm running a 32x19. It was pretty tough for a while, and a lot of climbs would require multiple stops to get my HR under control after a steeper section. As my strength has improved, and I've learned how to better control my efforts, I'm now able to climbs like Brown Saddle and Cherry Canyon non-stop. For the stuff I ride most, the gearing works.

that was hard. Was usually some walking involved (but then, I'm old
)
I have a cross bike set up ss 38x19 but I don't take that bike up those mountains very often (unless I'm looking to hike).
