In terms of a new forum, I have been enjoying reading the stuff at recumbents.com. For such a lightly used forum, it has a lot of really good stuff. Could be a viable alternative.
I agree with you on the Recumbents.com forum. It's a good forum. It's a shame it has such little use. Definitely could be an alternative.
