I ran into this problem with the C&V rides. Since the group is based on riding old bikes, rather than fitness or speed level, the abilities of the group are diverse. So usually we get huge splits at every incline - in both directions, it turns out, because not everyone likes to go ripping down the straight descents like I do. I'll get to the bottom and everyone's at least 50 yards behind.
