Seriously, no one needs to hear your disdain for a category of bikes. It's ok to have an unexpressed thought once in a while.
Shorter trips and commuting around town possibly carrying cargo will be better served by a cruiser geometry bike. Hybrids do well for those that have never given cruisers a chance, but that doesn't make hybrids a great bike choice.
