I was just thinking of the Huffy Areowind as today I bought a Bridgestone Grand-Velo with the Dura Ace AX components. I remember seeing the Huffy Aerowind at a Southern California Fedmart store (most of these later became Target stores), and I really wanted one. I knew it wasn’t a high quality bike, but a new Masi Gran Criterium in 1981 or so cost $1800 (close to $6k in today’s money), which was a lot more than I could afford at the $10 a week I got delivering papers. Aerodynamic bikes were something of a “thing” at that time, largely due to Shimano trying to find a market for it’s AX components. The Huffy was within my price range, and I would have gotten it except that my mom ended up surprising me with a new Schwinn Le Tour for my birthday. Anyway, the Grand Velo is a far better bike than an early 80’s Huffy, and the Dura Ace AX parts are much better than the Turd AX stuff which came on the Huffy. Even so, if I could find one of these old Huffy’s, I’d like to have it.
