I'm still a fan of triples. Here is my 1982 McLean. Velo Orange (made by IRD?) cranks with 48/34/24 rings, so I don't know if it looks fast. I'm not fast, especially in recent years. I never knew a crankset could make a bike ride better, but perhaps the chainrings' better machining makes it possible. The bike is quieter and shifts better.
