Almost bought a current aluminum frame bike that has cracks in the head tube
...what does "current" mean in this context ? Small cracks in the edges of the head tube are a common problem with aluminum frames that have been ridden for a while. Cracks in general start to show up in various high stress areas with aluminum alloy frames. They're not designed with lasting forever in mind.
