One of the vagaries of China's unified time zone - most countries this size would have at least 3 time zones, but China only has one. As a result, cities in the east of China have sunrise very early, and sunset very early as well. Here in Shanghai in the summer the sun rises by 5am but it's fully set by just after 7pm, so it's fully dark by 8pm. As someone originally from Calgary where the sun doesn't set in the summer until well after 9pm, that took a lot of getting used to.
