Had one 2 years ago, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Glad I did it, the tooth was dying and broke, dentist said it was time.
A little soreness for a few days, but nothing tylenol didn't handle. You do need to keep it really clean and free of food particles as much as possible while it heals, clean frequently, they should give you antiseptic sponges and a rinse.
Worst part was dental insurance only covered about half, still was almost 3 grand out of pocket. I coulda had a really nice bike for that.
