The amount of weight you will save by ditching the rear derailleur and cassette, is minuscule compared to the overall weight of you and the bike, plus any load you will be carrying.
Exactly, the idea is to leverage the symmetric setup to run a lower spoke count. 36 spokes is nice but I don't need this wheel to last 11 years
