I needed a shim for some 25.4 handlebars to fit a 26mm stem. My micrometer told me exactly how many layers of aluminum sheet I needed from a beer can to make the perfect shim.
I know your point was bad welding, I am not disagreeing with you on that.
The really bad part is that it didn’t work. The handle bars spun in the stem with the slightest of pressure and the stem was severely erroded from all the movement. Poor kid must have had to readjust the bars every time they hit the brakes. Wonder how many teeth they still have?
