I always say I'll adapt to the injury and keep going. Just don't quit, because quitting is the killer.
One thing that my one of my doctors told me when I was trying to figure out when a 'helpful' stretch or exercise was helpful or hurtful (because it caused some level of pain). His initial response was something like "the riskiest thing that you could do WRT your health and longevty is
stop doing".
