I was thinking the same. OP didn't say much about the location where this occurred and whether there might be witnesses. If the bike wasn't found, it could be the perp pulled over and retrieved it to get rid of evidence, which would be another thing that could have been witnessed. It would be worth reaching out through social media (if you do that sort of thing) to find out if anyone saw anything. The person who did this should be prosecuted, absolutely.
