Just stumbled on some purported 27x1-3/8" tires on Nashbar:

Sunlite V-Track Hybrid Tire (Black/Gum) (27" / 630 ISO) (1-3/8") (Wire)

I know nothing about them, but they might be worth a look if you want a wider 27-inch tire.
