I have a new chain (Shimano) for that, part of an NOS 1055 take-off.
I think I have a new KMC 7/8 speed in a box here, too.
I second those who think a 9-sp will work, and only would add to keep the lettering facing outward.
I'm not sure that makes a difference, but it does when you get up in the 9/10/11 range on Shimano stuff w/Shimano chains.
