The Rohloff hub is probably the most expensive single item, but Rohloffs are so rare in USA that almost nobody knows what it is. One of my neighbors is a bike mechanic, he told me that my Rohloff is the only one he has ever seen.
i was on a brief tour in northern il. On the i and m canal i ran into a british guy going the other direction riding a thorn with a rholoff. Pretty cool.
