Oh, man, it's cold out there! Beautiful almost-full moon this morning, and a lot of deer out and about.

Day before yesterday, I almost hit a beaver! Riding by the canal just after dark, I saw a dark shapeless shape right in the middle of the path in front of me, so I slowed down, then stopped. Clearly a decent sized critter (I'm guessing 30-40 lbs, but what do I know), probably 15-20 feet away. I don't know what the beaver was doing, but clearly not paying attention to anything but himself. Then he saw my headlight and dashed off and dove silently into the canal. In the moonlight I saw its wake as it swam away, but it hadn't made a sound.
