Fit okay and long doesn’t sound like they fit okay. Modern road shoes are not inherently long. But some are too narrow for sure if you have fairly wide feet. I have moderately wide feet (not silly wide, but above average) and find that wide fit road shoes work best for me. Shimano do wide fit sizing, as do Lake and some Fizik models. Lake actually do several widths in each nominal size, so could be a good bet. Specialized shoes also tend to have a reasonable width. I realise you are talking about length, but I think you really mean they are too long for the correct width ie really too narrow.
